Carver Fort Quill Complete Surfskate Complete – 9 7/8″ x 31.25″
The Carver “Fort Knox” had a makeover for 2018 with a new graphic and name “Knox Quill” but stay reassured the dimension are the same as the previous model. We just love this deck here at NS, with it’s clean rounded cut & slick graphic, it certainly looks the part. The 17.5″ wheelbase gives it a controllable range of motion for most riders, if you’re a bit taller than 180cm looking at the Flying Manta for a bit more wheelbase. The wider the wheelbase, the wider your stance can be, increasing balance & stability as you cut up for the tarmac.
Taylor has been on the Carver team for nearly a decade, and during his tenure we’ve made numerous board models for him. His most popular by far has been the Fort Knox, a mid-sized deck with the wider spooned nose for extra forward foot placement. Everything is designed to work with Taylor’s style of power carving, so for 2014 we’ve made a few adjustments. First we added a quarter inch of length to this signature model and lengthened the wheelbase by 3/4″. It’s a subtle adjustment, but widening the stance and drawing out the carves by just a little bit makes this all-around board pump a bit faster. It still has the same easy pump and stable pushing properties, but with the added length Taylor has adjusted the stance so its even more closely matched with his surfing stance. This is important when using the board for surf cross-training, as it sets up good foot placement habits and proper muscle memory. Next we gave the template a fuller squash tail for a classic look and feel. And finally, we’ve kept the winged theme for his graphic, as well as his favorite blue and black colorway, creating a new Knox with the same classic vibe that Taylor has always had.
